Walking Meditation
Painted Plum Sangha practices Walking Meditation each week and we have a nice wooded lot that is right on Lake Arlington. So we use our feet to kiss the Earth and we are also able to be fully present in a small slice of nature.
If you are new to walking meditation, do not worry we will teach you how to do this easy mindfulness practice. Sometimes walking meditation offers a new concept of "meditation" but it is another powerful tool in your mindfulness toolbox.
There is a big porch area available (for walking or sitting) if getting around (walking is difficult for you).
Walking meditation is also great for those of us with busy minds that might struggle with regular sitting meditations.
Sitting Meditation
Sitting meditation is kind of the core of our practice. Typically we do Guided Meditations where one of the facilitators will "guide" you on what to do. Then you just find a seat (meditation cushion or a chair) and find a comfortable position and then follow what the guide shares.
You do not need to know how to meditate before joining us. The guided meditations and our community will make it easy for you to get started and feel confident, even if brand new to the practice.
Dharma Lessons
Each week we have a roughly 20-minute Dharma Lesson that explores the Buddha's philosophies, insights, and practice to help us learn to grow our daily practices.
See the video as an example of a Dharma Lesson.
Dharma (Group) Sharing
Dharma Sharing is a time when we open things up for conversation. This is a safe circle where members are allowed to share what is going on in their lives, how their practice is helping them, or even struggles they may have with their practice.
It is a kind, respectful way to practice Deep Listening and hold other people's ideas gently without judgements.
Watch the video for an overview on the practice.
